"His speech is of mortgaged bedding,
On his kine he borrows yet,
At his heart is his daughter’s wedding,
In his eye foreknowledged of debt.
He eats and hath indigestion,
He toils and he may not stop;
His life is a long-drawn question
Between a crop and a crop."
-Rudyard Kipling, The Masque of Plenty
More than a billion people in the world are employed in agriculture, and in India, one out of four people are farmers or agricultural workers.
Haryana has pioneered in the field of agriculture and is one of the fore runner States who have provided food security to the nation after ushering in of the Green Revolution. The State had set an example by becoming No. 1 agrarian state amongst smaller states in the country. Due to myopic policies of the present government, the bread basket of the country has however drifted into innumerable agonies faced by farmers and the general public at large. Time has come that the issue be taken head on and concrete, long lasting measures are put in place to restore the glory of the peasantry who, by dint of their hard work and sweat, have made this country self sufficient in food.
